Dr. Richard L. Zeff, is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Stratham, NH. Peforming liposuction in New Hampshire (NH) – and we serve Maine and other New England states with body-contouring procedures. Liposuction was first introduced to this country in the early 1980s and has since become the most widely accepted surgical method of selective fat reduction. Over the past 20 years, the procedure has benefited from numerous improvements to assure both safety and aesthetically pleasing results. Dr Richard Zeff is an experienced plastic surgeon who has had extensive training in body contouring through liposuction, enabling him to provide New Hampshire (NH), Maine, Vermont, and other New England-area patients with the most natural-looking results possible.
The single most important principle behind liposuction is that it is a shaping procedure. We are all born with a genetically determined distribution of fat that many of us would like to change. Most of us have realized that even successful weight loss can’t completely alter this distribution of fat. However, liposuction at our New Hampshire (NH) practice, serving Maine (ME), Vermont (VT), and the rest of New England, allows us to permanently change the fat distribution by actually reducing the number of fat cells in a given area. Not only does this result in an improved profile, but fat density is also permanently reduced in the area where liposuction surgery was performed.
The Liposuction Procedure
With good judgment and reasonable expectations, liposuction is extremely safe. At his plastic surgery center, Dr. Zeff employs a board-certified anesthesiologist to provide anesthesia so that you will feel no discomfort and remember little or nothing of the procedure itself.
During the liposuction procedure, Dr. Zeff creates tiny incisions in the areas that will be treated. Next, a small tube called a cannula is inserted into the incision and is moved around to break up and suck out the fat cells. Up to 10 pounds of fat can be removed during the liposuction treatment. Once the fat cells are sucked out, the incisions are closed with sutures.
Liposuction is an outpatient procedure at our New Hampshire (NH) practice. Patients can expect some bruising, but most pain lasts for less than a week and is easily controlled with prescribed medications. Generally, liposuction patients are able to return to work more quickly than patients of other invasive procedures. However, recovery time may be extended for patients who choose to combine their liposuction with other procedures, such as breast lift or abdominoplasty.
