FDA Approves Dermal Filler BELOTERO Balance®

Merz Aesthetics, a division of German-based Merz Pharmaceuticals, received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the use of a new dermal filler called BELOTERO Balance®. The FDA approved this dermal filler for for the correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds.

BELOTERO Balance® will now compete with other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as Restylane®Juvederm®collagen, Artefill®Radiesse®, and Sculptra®. Since there are so many options now for dermal fillers, you should consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to help you choose the one that’s right for you. Some dermal fillers may be more appropriate for use on the fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, while others may be more appropriate for use around your nasolabial folds. A board certified plastic surgeon can help you to understand your options and how the right dermal filler will help you to look years younger.

Dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid should not be confused with Botox®. Botox® may be used for anti-aging skin care but works through a completely different process. Sometimes, dermal fillers may be used in conjunction with Botox® in what is known as a liquid facelift. A liquid facelift is a non-surgical procedure where your plastic surgeon takes years off your looks without having to use a scalpel. This is in contrast to a traditional facelift which is a surgical procedure.

Dermal fillers are among the fastest growing treatments in the cosmetic surgery industry because they take years off your looks but require little down time. They can also help defer the need for a traditional facelift. BELOTERO Balance® is just one more option for consumers in the ever growing market for dermal fillers.
