In some patients, redundant skin can hang down, giving the appearance of a “turkey” neck. The attractive border and sharp angles of the jawline become obscured and ill-defined. Dr. Hoefflin performs his necklift and neck contouring procedures on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with deep sedation, or general anesthesia, administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. The entire procedure generally takes about 2 hours. All operations are performed in fully credentialed and state-of-the-art surgical facilities.
Every patient’s aesthetic requirements are different, and the operation is tailored to each patient’s individual anatomy. Some patients have a great deal of excessive skin, while others have little skin redundancy. Incisions are placed and hidden behind the ear creases, and a small incision is made directly beneath the chin. Liposuction is performed under the jawline, neck, and chin to remove unwanted fat and further improve the final aesthetic result. The neck muscles are tightened (platysmaplasty), and skin excess is removed.
Excellent anesthesia delivery, generous use of long-acting local anesthetics, nerve blocks, gentle dissection, and a host of other techniques all contribute to a near pain-free experience.
