Types of Liposuction

Types of Liposuction

Liposuction procedures vary depending on: the location of fat to be removed, the type of fat, the goals of the patient and the plastic surgeon's recommendation. The most important step in choosing a liposuction procedure, is first visiting your plastic surgeon. With the many medical advances, you now can choose a non-invasive procedure using lasers or even ultrasound energy.

  • Laser-Assisted Liposuction: In this laser-assisted technique, fat melts using a concentrated laser beam light which starts to break down your fatty tissue with less inflammation, less bruising and less bleeding.
  • PAL (Power Assisted Liposuction): Moving quickly, a mechanical cannula extracts fat with smaller incisions and a more precise and shorter surgical experience.
  • SAL (Suction Assisted Liposuction): A traditional method using a small cannula attached to a pressurized vacuum.
  • TCAL (Twin Cannula Assisted Liposuction): With twin cannulas in one, this mechanical method removes most of the labor on your plastic surgeon's part. There is no burning and less scarring when using the twin cannula.
  • Tumescent Liposuction: With tumescent fluid injected into fatty tissue, your plastic surgeon uses a cannula to suction out the fat while your blood vessels contract resulting in less blood loss and less bruising.
  • UAL (Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction): Unlike lasers and suction, ultrasound energy stimulates the fatty tissue's cells causing them to rupture and liquefy and then get extracted. Smoother, more efficient and less traumatic than other procedures.
