Modern liposuction - or liposculpture as it is sometimes called - has had a major impact on the area of body contouring surgery. Advancements with tumescent fluid administration, ultrasonic techniques, and increasingly sophisticated equipment have made treatment of nearly all areas of the body possible, and results have improved significantly. When performed by fully trained surgeons in proper hospital settings, liposuction has been shown to be very safe and effective.
Dr. Friedman has been performing liposuction and training others in this technique ever since it was popularized in this country in the mid 1980s. It has become a major part of his cosmetic surgery practice. Emphasizing the use of small cannulas helps to produce fine scars and smooth contours. Dr. Friedman finds that individuals with good skin tone and well localized areas of fat accumulations are especially good candidates for this procedure. When careful patient selection and skillful techniques are employed, results can be very gratifying.
